Am I at higher risk for a repeat herniation?

If you are reading this, it is probably because your herniated disc hasn’t responded to nonsurgical treatments. Before you proceed with discectomy surgery, however, you should be aware of the potential risks.

If the hole in your disc is larger than height of a standard pencil-top eraser, your chance of reherniation can be as high as 27%1. Barricaid closes the hole and reduces your chance of reoperation for reherniation by 81%2.

Did you know that the pressure in a disc is 10x that of a car tire?

Barricaid is a bone-anchored implant used following a discectomy that is designed to close the hole in the disc and prevent reherniation. Barricaid has the potential to allow your surgeon to preserve more of your natural pathology4 and get you back to your daily activities, such as work5, sooner.

Barricaid is the only FDA-Approved device designed for closing the hole in the disc following a discectomy.

  • J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2003 – Carragee, et al.
  • Some studies outside US indication. Minimum 1 year post-op. Minimum study size of 20 Barricaid subjects.
  • Spine 1999, Wilke, Hans
  • Cho PG, Shin DA, Park SH, Ji GY, 2019
  • Cureus. 2023 – Nunley, Et Al
